Professor H.R. Chandrasekhar, "Chandra." recieved a B.Sc. degree from Bangalore University, India in 1966, an M.Sc. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1968, and a Ph.D. in Physics from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN in 1973. After a post-doctoral fellowships at Purdue University and the Max-Planck-Institute fur Festkorperforschung, Stuttgart, Germany, he joined the faculty of the Physics Department at the University of Missouri, Columbia MO in 1978, where he is currently Department Chair, Director of Graduate Studies, and Professor of Physics.

Jinglu Tan, Ph.D. (Winter 2007)

Professor Tan completed his doctorate in engineering (mechanical and agricultural) at the University of Minnesota in 1990 with a research focus on compressible-fluid system modeling and control. Since completing his Ph.D. he has been on the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU). He was an Assistant Professor from 1990 to 1995, and Associate Professor from 1996 to 1999. Since 2000, he has been Professor and Chair for the Dept. of Biological Engineering. Since 2001, he has assumed the responsibilities of the Director for the Division of Food Systems & Bioengineering. From 2005-2007, he served as Interim Chair for the Dept. of Chemical Engineering. He has also been the Co-Director of the Bioprocessing & Biosensing Center of the MU Food for the 21st Century program since 1997.

Lampo Leong, Ph.D. (Winter 2005)

Dr. Leong has received his graduate degree from the prestigious California College of the Arts. He has been teaching at MU for four years; he will be promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure by next month. Professor Leong is an internationally renowned artist whose work has been featured in more then 50 solo and 200 group exhibitions all over the world. His paintings and calligraphy are in the collections of numerous museums worldwide, among them the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Stanford University Museum of Art, and Guangdong Museum of Art in China. Leong's artistic contributions have earned him more than 20 awards and over 500 feature stories in newspapers, magazines, and on television, including a PBS documentary. He has been recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record, and in 1999, the Mayor of San Francisco proclaimed November 19th to be "Lampo Leong Day".

Dr. Motoko Akiba conducts research on school safety, multicultural education, and comparative and international education. Applying quantitative policy methods, her research program aims to produce policy-relevant knowledge useful for improving students' learning and health.

Dr. Yoon’s research Interests include Religiousness/spirituality, human diversity, gerontology, rural social work, and welfare reform. His teaching interests are: Policy analysis, evaluative research methods, advanced quantitative research methods.

Yong Volz, Ph.D. (Fall 2005)

Journalism
Country of origin: China

Dr. Volz’s dissertation explored how the complex interactions between Chinese intellectuals and American journalists and educators created American-inspired but distinctly indigenous notions of journalism in early 20th century China. Volz twice earned two top paper awards from AEJMC, is the recipient of a 1st prize student paper award from the Chinese Communication Association and is published in several professional journals.
