Cost of Living:

In general, Bahrain is more expensive than the United States.  Expect to need a minimum of $2000 to live each month.  Also, as public transportation is practically non-existent, you probably will need to buy a car. For more information refer to: http://www.justlanded.com/english/bahrain/tools
/just_landed_guide/money/cost_of_living

Visa and Work Permits:

Visas are required by everyone wishing to enter Bahrain. Work permits are required for anyone who wish to work legally in Bahrain and become residents of the country. A work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the General Directorate of Immigration and Passports (GDIP) are required before this visa can be issued.  For more information visit: http://www.justlanded.com/english/bahrain/topics/visas_permits

Culture:

Women are more publicly active in Bahrain than in most Arab countries

Titles are very important.  Use the honorific Mister and any academic or political title and the firstname.  “Sheikh” is a good title to use for old men “Hajji” for those that have undertaken the religious obligation.

Impatience in a business meeting is a sign of disrespect.

Bahrainis do not require as much personal space as Westerners do

Money/Banking/Taxes:

The formalities involved in opening a bank account in Bahrain are quite stringent and involve a considerable amount of paperwork.  It may be advisable to have an offshore bank account.  For more information on banks and currency in Bahrain visit: http://www.justlanded.com/english/bahrain/topics/money
