Greece
Languages: Greek Cost of living: Greece is moderately priced. Food prices often vary by season. Prices on the Greek islands tend to be more expensive than costs on the mainland. Visa and Work Permits: You will need a visa if you are planning on staying in Greece longer than 30 days. To work, you must have a work permit before you arrive in Greece (you will also need a residence permit). Job Searching: The best opportunity for employment is in the tourism industry, working at resorts or travel companies who want English speakers. Writing a direct, unsolicited letter to a prospective employer is a common tactic in Greece. Cultural Differences in the Workplace: Greeks follow different nonverbal communication patterns: watch for a head nod to mean “no”, and a slight head tilt to the side to mean “yes”. Be prepared for Greeks to be slightly less worried about punctuality than Americans are (but you should always arrive on time anyways). A very common problem in Greece is getting paid. One way to protect yourself is to ask your employer to pay you on a weekly or daily basis. Money, Banking & Insurance: To open a bank account, you will just need your passport and an amount for an initial deposit. The main Greek banks are the National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank, and Alpha Bank.
