Work for the Career Center

Job Description: Career Specialists are undergraduate students who, after a semester of training, become paraprofessionals in the areas of: career planning, career assessment, career and employment resources, job search strategies, experiential learning, educational resources, computerized career assessments, and internet applications. They administer assessments as well as assist clients in the development of their resumes, cover letters, job search strategies, interview and decision-making skills. Career Specialist also assist students in locating cooperative education opportunities, internships, volunteer, and part-time positions.

In addition, Career Specialists are responsible for coordinating and administering most Career Center programs and activities through active participation on one or more of the Center's program teams, such as Outreach, Mock Interviews, and Marketing.

Through working at the Career Center, Career Specialists gain valuable skills including listening and verbal communication skills, career knowledge, and team-building experiences. Also, there are many leadership opportunities available for anyone who has the desire to become involved.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 at time of application and throughout employment
  • Undergraduate standing with the ability to make a minimum of a two semester commitment after completion of the training program
  • Meet the required 10 to 15 hour a week time commitment to the Career Center
  • Ability to demonstrate the following:
    • Strong work ethic
    • Customer service and communication skills
    • Work well in a team atmosphere
    • Consistent productivity with a minimum amount of supervision
Criteria for Selection:
  • Meeting the minimum qualifications as stated above
  • Completion and submission of a Career Specialist employment application
  • Successful first and second round interviews
  • Successful completion of midterm and final semester training program evaluations
This position is open to all students seeking part-time or work-study employment.
