What Can I do With a Major Major: Counseling Description of Major: Counseling is a generic term for those who interview, test and counsel people who have problems, are seeking to clarify career and life alternatives, or wish to develop their potential. Among the problems are difficulties with parents or friends, trouble choosing careers, trouble with school, and disabilities that require that the person adjust and learn new skills. Counseling degrees are usually offered in graduate and professional programs in schools of education or psychology. Degrees offered include but are not limited to Masters (MA, MS, MEd) and Doctorate (PhD, PsyD, EdD). The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) maintains an online directory of accredited master's and doctoral programs in the United States and Canada.
