What Can I do With a Major Major: Journalism Description of Major: By majoring in journalism, a student will be expected to take many courses involving the liberal arts and sciences in an effort to learn more about society and the different cultures of the world. Possible journalism courses could include news writing, reporting, copy editing, journalism ethics, design, investigative journalism and mass media law. These classes will educate you on effective writing techniques, creating and interpreting communicative graphics and video, and the skills needed to capture photography images. Most journalism majors can specialize in areas such as newspaper, magazine, photojournalism, broadcast or advertising. An individual looking to major in journalism should possess a friendly attitude, be creative and independent, be able to think clearly under pressure, and should be able to work with deadlines.
