What Can I do With a Major Major: Law Careers Description of Major: Lawyers interpret law and apply it to specific situations. They act as both advocates and advisors. As advocates, they represent on of the opposing parties as either the prosecutor or the defense attorney in criminal or civil trials by presenting evidence that supports their position or client in court. As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients about their legal rights and obligations, and suggest particular courses of action in business and personal matters.
