What Can I do With a Major
Major : Personal Financial Planning Description of Major: The Department of Consumer and Family Economics (CFE) offers three undergraduate majors in contemporary fields: Personal Financial Planning, Personal Financial Management Services, and E-Consumer Studies. Graduates are prepared for entry into interesting and rewarding career opportunities. The major in Personal Financial Planning is registered with the CFPtm Board of Standards to allow graduates to complete the education requirements allowing them to sit for the rigorous CFPtm exam. Increasingly this mark of excellence is recognized by the public as standard to look for in financial professionals focusing on individuals and families. Our major in Personal Financial Management Services incorporates much of the coursework for the CFPtm examination but affords the student the opportunity to choose courses which focus on the student’s interests. Careers in investments, insurance, banking, financial counseling, financial planning, employee benefits, retirement planning, real estate and a range of other positions that involve the financial affairs of individuals and families await graduates from this program. E-Consumer Studies is a joint degree program with the MU Department of Textiles and Apparel Management. Recognition is increasingly being given to the importance of retailers and manufacturers fully understanding the consumer. This degree program combines aspects of retailing, the economics of the consumer, and market research to create a unique degree designed to serve the Internet retailing employer.
