Exploration: Columbia & Career || Part 1

Category: Cherry on Top Exploring Careers & Majors

As an incoming freshman, you’re probably wondering: What is there to do in Columbia, Missouri? How can I try new things, meet new people and network all at once? Well my friends, here is your very own virtual tour guide of all the hotspots in Columbia that you don’t want to miss and some sweet tips on how to expand your career community through the exploration process! Whether you’re an outdoorsy person, a concert fanatic or a coffee shop blogger, I guarantee Columbia will have something that suits your fancy.

Before I dive into all the lively places there are to go in Columbia, I want to give you some tips on how to make the most of your adventures by getting out there and talking to people.

  1. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you meet. There has not been a single person I have ever met that doesn’t enjoy when others take initiative and ask them to do something first. If you meet someone who is going down the same career path as you or is maybe a couple steps ahead, take advantage of that and learn from their wisdom.
  2. Ask a lot of questions. This is the best way to find hidden jobs, opportunities and clubs. Of course, hiremizzoutigers.com is a great way to find a job, but your DREAM JOB could only be a few questions away and the club that sparks passion and innovation in you could come from a simple, “What club are you a part of?”
  3. Do things you don’t think you would like. They key word here is think and you never know till you try. College is the perfect place for figuring out who you are and what you want to do for the rest of your life. The more you do, the more you learn about yourself. Maybe you didn’t think you would like rock-climbing because you are scared of heights but the feeling you got from trying it made you realize you are far more capable than you thought.
