Question: What is one thing you wish you knew before coming to Mizzou (college)?
Answer: “I wish that I knew the reality of change and that’s it’s really real and it’s a lot different than what we’re used to. You definitely get put out of your comfort zone, so I wish I was a little bit more forewarned of that newness. I maybe wish that I knew someone before coming here because I definitely feel very alone, more than you would think, coming to college thinking you’re going to meet your best friend, but it’s not always the case.
Question: What did you expect coming here? Did the school meet those expectations?
Answer: Coming to Mizzou, I knew it’d be a large campus and a friendly one, is what I heard. I knew that it is pretty big and I’d have pretty big classes. Surprisingly, most of my classes are decently small, so I was looking forward to that on the first day of school. One thing I also expected was like a friendly environment and lots of people that I would probably be friends with and I met a lot of people and they’ve been friendly, but I haven’t found a group of friends yet.
Question: What do you look forward to in the coming years?
Answer: This upcoming year, I’m most looking forward to being a part of the Tiger’s Lair and attending the sporting events, especially the football games. It was a big part of what I did in my hometown, in high school, and I know it’s going to be a big step up from high school. I’m very excited.
Question: Name your three favorite things about Mizzou.
Answer: All the opportunities; the academic opportunities, the social opportunities, and the networking. It’s kind of all tied into opportunities because it’s options. One, I like [that] there are options. Two, it’s something for everybody here. Three, the school promotes the image of providing resources.
Question: Describe the benefits of having resources on campus and how you’re going to use them?
Answer: One, I’m a walker, so me having to walk across campus is better than me having to walk to a library, or something. Two, me knowing that I have resources helps me not fail my classes having people to help me. Since I was in the Upward Bound program in my high school, I qualified to be in the Trio Program here, so I’m going to use that as a resources. And the Student Success Center in general.
Question: What’s the dorm life like?
Answer: Dorm life is great, my favorite part. It’s a lot of similar people on my floor that I really appreciate. I like how it’s co-ed in the lounge.
Question: What’s your biggest fear as a college freshman?
Answer: My biggest fear is falling behind in my classes, then I guess getting a poor GPA and then hearing my mom on my case.
Question: Why did you choose Mizzou?
Answer: I chose Mizzou because my oldest sister came here, so I was familiar with the campus and the layout of what goes on here. I just really enjoy the school.
Question: What’s your favorite memory so far?
Answer: My favorite memory so far is probably volleyball for seventh floor Hatch at 11:00 p.m. I get to interact with people and hang out with everyone.
