Hire and Manage Students

Recruit Students

Students are a core part of our mission at the University. Campus employment offers exceptional advantages for them, including: necessary income, workplace skills, professional development, mentorship and convenience.

HireMizzouTigers.com

Faculty and staff are encouraged to post part-time student positions on HireMizzouTigers.com, the online employment website for students powered by Handshake. Job seekers can post their resumes and look for campus positions as well as internships, graduate assistantships and full-time jobs. Faculty and staff are encouraged to work with their Human Resource contacts to post their employment opportunities.

Work Study Employment

Federal Work Study (FWS) is designed to give part-time employment to undergraduate and graduate students who need the income to help meet the costs of post secondary education and to encourage FWS recipients to participate in community service activities. The FWS program pays the student wage and helps faculty and staff find qualified students to add to their team.

Click on the link above to find out about the program, including: eligibility, posting positions, hiring students, payroll information, and employment procedures. While the Student Financial Aid Office determines eligibility and allocates Work Study funds to students, the MU Career Center works in collaboration with this office to do the following:

  • Post employment opportunities
  • Assist students with the selection of positions
  • Answer Work Study Employment questions during Summer Welcome
  • Provide training for employers

Manage Students

Employment during college helps contribute to student success and career outcomes. Supervisors play a key role in helping students acquire new skills, reflect on their experience and make meaningful connections between their work and classroom learning.

Supervisor Resources

Supervisors can play a pivotal role in the satisfaction, success and development of students.  We encourage them to join the Canvas-based Supervisor Toolkit which provides resources connected to each stage of a student employee development timeline, and we welcome ideas for additional resources to keep the modules current.

Encourage Student Development

A great way to keep student employees invested in their work is to provide opportunities for skill attainment that is relevant to the success of your workplaces and their future goals. The learning management system offered by UM System, Percipio, has thousands of courses, books, videos and learning channels that provide opportunities to earn certifications and digital badges that your student employees can add to their LinkedIn profiles and social media platforms. Topics on communication, diversity and inclusion, customer service, time management, and problem solving are just a few examples of training available to you and your student employees.
