3 Steps for Interviewing Success

Category: Interviewing

Interviewing is definitely scary to think about. On the bright side the MU Career Center is here to help you! There are three things that you can do to help you kill your interview.

1. Study

One way to feel confident going into your interview is to study the business, organization, club etc. you’re interviewing with. When you study, you have a clear understanding what the business, organization or club is looking for. Having knowledge of the business makes it easier to ask questions to the people who are interviewing you. Having quality questions at the end of the interview may not seem necessary, but they are crucial for potentially being accepted for the position.

2. Practice

Practicing your elevator speech and how to respond to questions sets you apart from the crowd. Being able to appropriately respond to questions and using good body language makes it easier to highlight your skills and show how qualified you are for the position and what they’re looking for. Coming into the Career Center and having a Mock Interview with one of the Career Specialists is a great way to practice interviewing skills. We go through an interview type process and give you feedback on what you are excellent on and how to strengthen areas that need a bit of tweaking.

3. Look the Part

Looking the part does two things. First, it helps you feel confident when you walk into your interview. Second, it helps the interviewer see you as the right person for the position. If you aren’t for sure what proper interview attire is, you can take a peek at the MU Career Center’s Pinterest page or discuss your concerns with a Career Specialist.
