Our Specialist Spotlight Series continues with Leslie Howard, a senior at Mizzou studying Journalism and Theatre!

What are your strengths from StrengthsQuest?
Individualization Developer Adaptability Communication Arranger

How would you describe the environment of the MUCC?
The MUCC environment is very professional yet very open.

What makes a good career specialist?
I think a good career specialist has a wide range of knowledge and experiences and they are dedicated listening to the experiences of others.

What’s your favorite memory of working here?
My favorite memory would probably be attending the Wakonse Leadership Conference last summer. It was really interesting to get to connect with my peers and to have conversations with faculty.

How has the MUCC helped you to reach your goals?
The MUCC has helped me to reach my goals by helping me maintain my focus and pinpoint what it is that I want to do.

What is the best part about being a Career Specialist?
They best part of being a Career Specialist is getting to work with different people every day – no two customers are the same. So there are different conversations all day, whether you are interpreting your 10th StrengthsQuest of the day or working on the resume of someone new.

How can theatre, music, and arts majors benefit from the MU Career Center?
They can benefit from coming into the Career Center because while some of their processes for getting jobs might be a little different, there are still a lot of basic tools offered here that could be helpful to expand their career opportunities.

What are your plans after graduation?
After I graduate I will be working in the summer, and in August I will be moving to Glasgow Scotland to pursue a masters degree at the University of Glasgow in Youth Studies. This degree will be focused on the intersection of education and social science, and creating inclusive and productive learning environments.

What else is on your to-do list of this year?
For this year, I plan to spend a lot of time with my friends, open a show, and hike a bunch of trails that are still on my list in Columbia. I like to be outdoors when it’s not freezing.
