Still thinking about apply to graduate school? Here are a few more tips when you’re making the decision to apply to a graduate program:
4. Do your research
We all have those schools in mind that we really want to attend! My dream school was the University of Missouri and I was lucky enough to be accepted. This isn’t always how it goes though. It is important to select a few schools that you have a great chance of being accepted too as a safety valve. It is great to have something to fall back on if things don’t work out completely as expected!
5. Don’t be scared away by admission standards but be realistic
It doesn’t hurt to try for a school that you don’t quite qualify for but really like! The worst that can happen is that they say no. And who knows, you might be surprised with an interview or even admission! It’s important to remain realistic with most of your choices but you might kick yourself one day if you didn’t apply for your dream school because you thought it was out of your league
6. Apply to more than one school
Applying to graduate schools isn’t a one-day thing. You’ll have 4 years or more of undergraduate experiences to prepare, recommendations to gather, graduate tests to take, applications to complete, timelines to follow and many more items to complete! This shouldn’t scare someone away from applying but if you want to pursue a graduate education it has to be something you are committed to. It could be a waste of time if you don’t invest yourself in all that needs to be done!
Deciding to apply for graduate school is a huge moment in a student’s life. It can take months of planning and research before you even begin the applying! Hopefully a few of these tips take some of the stress out of the application process.
