Career Counseling

What is career counseling?

Career counseling is assistance for those who would like ongoing, individualized support to discuss career-related challenges or concerns. Career counselors:

  • Discuss career, academic, and personal/social issues.
  • Assist you through career transitions and decisions.
  • Offer career self-assessments to understand your skills, abilities, interests, talents, and values.
  • Connect you to job search and career information resources.
  • Help you set personal goals.
  • Explore ways to find balance in your life.
  • Discover academic enrichment opportunities.
  • Address anything else you would like to talk about.

Please note that at any time you can access career coaching regarding resumes, cover letters, job searching, and more.

Getting started

Career counseling is available to MU students and recent alumni residing in the state of Missouri. The Career Center is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during fall and spring semesters, but additional hours may be available.

Your first visit will be a 30-minute consultation where you will talk about your goals and what to expect from career counseling. Once you schedule an appointment, we will email you forms to complete before your consultation.
