Mizzou is a bustling place with lots of beautiful architecture, historical spots, and state-of-the-art facilities. But nestled among these physical structures is Mizzou’s natural beauty, the Mizzou Botanic Garden. The University of Missouri campus was established as a certified botanic garden in 1999. It consists of 18 gardens and covers 1,252 acres of campus, home to hundreds of perennials, ornamental shrubs, annual flowers and trees.
For a quarter century this garden has been a living testament to the beauty of nature. Landscapers and a team of dedicated student and professional staff carefully tend to the gardens. The mission of the Mizzou Botanic Garden is to support the University of Missouri in the areas of education, research, extension, and economic development. To this end, the Garden is to serve as a public resource which inspires, educates, and delights visitors of all ages.
Each day 44,000 students, faculty, staff and visitors encounter beautiful perennials, majestic trees, striking ornamental shrubs and colorful flowers as they enter and cross Mizzou’s campus each day. The Mizzou Botanic Garden estimates that in an average year they plant between 600 and 1,000 new trees and shrubs as well as several thousand annual flowers each year to provide excellent summer and fall flowering on campus. The Mizzou Botanic garden is also home to wildlife: there are several herds of deer that roam the gardens as well as bees, butterflies, rabbits and the occassional fox!
The Mizzou campus is a unqiue expereince for students and our beautiful camus is no exception. We cannot wait for new and returning students to arrve to campus and explore its beauty!
