Career Specialist Spotlights

November is National Career Development Month and we want to highlight two members of our paraprofessional team, Tiana Cobb and Peyton Marr! They are both seniors and long-serving members of our Career Specialist team. Get to know them better and hear their words of wisdom to Mizzou students.

Tiana Cobb  

Major: BA Public Administration and Policy, BS Architectural Studies  
Class: Senior 
Hometown: Monmouth, Illinois  

What is your favorite resource at the MU Career Center?  
CliftonStrengths and Interview Preparation!  

What do you enjoy most about working at the Career Center?  
Seeing students leave with an elevated aura and increased confidence from taking steps towards their goals.  

What are your long term career goals?  
Advocate for and empower sustainable and intentional change in underserved communities around the world. 

How has working at the MU Career Center contributed to achieving your career goals? 
Opportunities as a team coordinator and trainee mentor and evaluator have significantly improved my leadership. 

What advice do you have for students about discovering and pursuing their career goals? 
Follow your passions and values! Be open-minded and brave! Pursue quality connections!  

What is a Career Center resource or service that you wish more students knew about?  
Mizzou Career Tools- “Belonging” and “Work Abroad” filter resources. 

What is a  good general piece of advice/inspiration you would want to share with other Mizzou students?  
There is not time limit on education. 

Where else have you worked or interned?  
My first job was an internship in my hometown at the Buchanan Center for the Arts.  

What clubs or student orgs are you involved with?  
I got to events organized by MSJP (Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine_ and ALAS (Association of Latin America Students).  

What is one hidden talent that you possess?  
I can wiggle my ears. 

What is your favorite music/artist right now?  
Mac Miller.  

What is your favorite activity/hobby to do outside of work/school?  
Running.  

What is your favorite class you have taken in college so far?  
Andean Civilization and Culture – SPAN 4980 (Study abroad course in Peru).  

Peyton Marr 

Major: BA in Health Science (Respiratory Therapy)  
Class: Senior 
Hometown: Ashland, Illinois  

What is your favorite resource at the MU Career Center? 
Big Resume because a solid resume is such an important part of starting your career journey.  

What do you enjoy most about working at the Career Center? 
Connecting with students and hearing about their different journeys. 

What are your long term career goals? 
Work as a pediatric respiratory therapist. 

How has working at the Career Center contributed to achieving your career goals? 
It has shown me that there are so many different resources to help you reach your goals and so many ways to get there. 

What advice do you have for students about discovering and pursuing their career goals? 
Use your resources! 

What is a Career Center resource or service that you wish more students knew about? 
Handshake. 

Where else have you worked or interned? 
I worked as a Respiratory Care Assistant at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. 

What clubs or student orgs are you involved with? 
I am involved in Little Sisters of the Gold Rose.  

What is one hidden talent that you possess? 
Crazy fast at a crossword puzzle. 

What is your favorite music/artist right now? 
The Weeknd. 

What is your favorite activity/hobby to do outside of work/school?

I love to Travel!  

What is your favorite class you have taken in college so far? 
HLTH_SCI 2400 Contemporary Health Issues. 

Payton and Tiana are just two of more than 30 Career Specialists who work in the Career Center. Our student staff provide assessments, discuss career paths and majors, assist with job searching. review resumes, prepare students for interviews, and much more. Visit them weekdays between 9am and 4 pm in-person or online.
