Feeling internship panic? Relax – we have you covered!

I hear a lot of students getting stressed about summer plans and finding an internship. In fact, in the past two weeks, the Career Center has received a lot of questions about internships and where to find them! Let us help you get started in your search process to alleviate those fears and build your confidence.

Sourcing Internships

There are many ways to find internship programs or openings but here are our top picks:

  • Networking: People always say it’s who you know and making personal connections can be a highly effective way to find and secure an internship. Make contact with employers and alumni through LinkedIn, career fairs, career workshops, campus events, and other virtual and in person opportunities. MU faculty and staff, friends and family are also valuable parts of your network, so let people know you are searching!

  • Handshake: Handshake is a top resource for all student internship seekers. Last year nearly 37,000 internships (really!) were posted by employers in a wide variety of roles in all industries. Small business to Fortune 100 companies advertise opportunities located in Missouri, the Midwest, and the throughout U.S.! Work with career services to set up your profile, arrange internship filters, and set job alerts so you don’t miss out on an internship that’s just right for you!

  • Missouri InternConnect: This free, easy service matches Missouri interns with great work opportunities across the Show-Me state. The site also has Student FAQs, upcoming events, and industry information.

  • Internships-USA: Internships-USA is an online bank of internship programs from 3,000+ companies and non-profit organizations in a variety of industries and social services. The link goes to a landing page with login credentials for Mizzou students to access the site. Some of the lists include: Advertising Agencies, America’s Top Companies, Sports Internships, Human Rights Internships, and several more.
  • Career Communities: The Career Center developed web pages based on career interests and each page features professional associations and industry-based job search sites. This is a great way to identify internships on smaller, career-focused web sites that have less traffic… and competition!

  • Micro-internships: Parker Dewey is a program where employers hire students for short-termpaidprofessional projects that are open to all college students. Students create profile, view and apply for opportunities, and complete projects once selected by the employer. Whether you work directly with an entrepreneur or support a large enterprise, you’ll have the opportunity to explore different roles and company cultures in a way that fits into your schedule. What you see is what you will earn upon completion.
