Mizzou’s fall semester has officially kicked into gear. The semester’s off to an exciting start – from a Tigers football win against Kansas to family weekend, the first months are flying by. With whirlwind of new classes and fall sports, it can feel like every day is absorbed by school. If you’re struggling to find your place on campus outside of classes, here’s four recommendations to find your community at Mizzou.
The Athlete
Is your idea of a good time playing a game of pickup basketball in the rec, or do you miss playing on a high school sports team? Consider joining a movement-based student organization. This could be an intramural team through the Mizzou Rec, or something less team based. Both CHAARG and the Women’s Weightlifting and Wellness clubs are two women-focused workout groups creating spaces for fitness and connection. Other groups that can get you moving are MU Outdoors, a club for hiking and camping, and Mizzou Pickleball.
The Major-Focused
Are you looking for activities to boost your chance of getting an internship and a way to connect with your classmates? Consider a club related to your major. Club options can vary based on each major, but rest assured Mizzou has something that will fit the bill. For journalism students, Mizzou Women in Media, Magazine Club or MU Documentary Club are options. If your major falls within CAFNR, consider the Pre-Veterinary Club, Agribusiness Club or MU Forestry Club. No matter what area you’re studying, rest assured that Mizzou has a club for your interests.
The Artist
Do you enjoy crafting or miss art class from high school? Check out some creative clubs at Mizzou to help fill that void. For dancers, consider Center Stage, a club that gives members the chance to teach free dance classes to children, or the Mizzou Ballroom Club. If crafting calls your name, look into the Crochet Club or the Friendship Bracelet Club.
The Techie
Are video games your favorite way to pass the time? Try out a technology-centered club to connect with other gamers. Mizzou has multiple Esports clubs, from Marvel Rivals to Overwatch. If video games aren’t your thing, check out the Mizzou 3D printing club or MU Robotics.
Whether you’re a freshman or senior, it’s never too late to find your community at Mizzou, and thanks to the over 600 student organizations on campus, it’s easier than ever.
