Five ways to make the most of Spring Semester

You’ve finished the fall semester, and your much-deserved winter break is nearing its end. While we hope you have caught up on sleep, spent time with family and friends, and done some binge-watching of your favorite shows, it’s time to head back to school. Classes are nearly here and we want to offer a few quick tips on how to make the most of your spring semester.

Declutter, especially digitally

Start with your room and apartment. Recycle, organize and have a clean living and workspace that will help you stay focused. Purge your backpack (who knows what’s in there!) and then move onto your devices. Trash unnecessary emails, delete screenshots and temp files, and organize assignments and projects into Google drive, the Cloud, or wherever you store work.  Hang on to things related to your major or items you want to save for a portfolio or reference for another time.

Take note of important upcoming dates

Once you get your class syllabi, put key exams, paper and other dates in your planner. Also, be sure to mark off Career Fair Week, March 2-5, 2026. Career Services is hosting 5 career fairs and you can attend as many as you like – they are open to all majors! Log into Handshake to see who’s coming to recruit for internships and full-time job opportunities!

Set goals

Be intentional with what you plan to accomplish over the next 16 weeks!  Consider your grades, the experiences you are seeking, and skills you want to develop or master. Also make sure those are holistic goals: consider healthy habits for sleep, exercise and nutrition. Wellness is key to performing your best.

Book an appointment with Career Services

Whether you need to declare your major, create a resume, or prep for interviews, career coaching is a great way to get your questions answered in a 1:1 setting. Students can meet with a Career Specialist in person or online weekdays from 9am-4 pm.  And while we encourage appointments, students are welcome to drop-in any time. Just visit the lower level of the Student Success Center on Lowry Mall.

Make connections

Meet new people through student organizations, campus events, and classes.  Attend career events that often include alumni and company recruiters. Get to know your advisor and instructors with the aim of building relationships. These folks have lots of wisdom and advice to share and can serve as future references.

Wishing all our Tigers the very best in 2026!
