Career Scoop

How Far You’ve Come

Tigers, you’ve made it through finals week – congratulations!  While many of you are leaving campus to return home, to begin a summer job or internship, or to start your new post-grad adventure, take a moment to consider your accomplishments.

Before you move on to the next thing, take 15 or 20 minutes to ask yourself a few questions and jot down your responses. It’s important to celebrate your successes, acknowledge hardships, identify the skills you’ve honed, and lessons you learned along the way.

Mindset

Take a moment to consider what you were thinking back in August – did you have goals? Were you excited about the semester? Anxious about the challenges ahead? Note how you adjusted to things along your fall and spring semester journey. Note the times you felt overwhelmed but also how you met and overcame obstacles. Think through the times you persevered or showed resilience.  Consider how you might meet the next challenge with grit and determination and how you can tap into people and resources to help you through.

Show Gratitude

Accomplishments don’t happen in a vacuum. Think about the people who helped motivate you, helped you stay focused, and added to your success. Reach out to them and express your appreciation. Whether you share a note, email or text, this exercise will boost your well-being and spread a lot of positive and happiness to others.

Set new goals

It’s important to take a moment to savor your achievements, but there are more things you want to achieve! Summer is a great time to think about the skills you want to gain or enhance as well as academic and personal goals you want to set for yourself. Don’t limit your aspirations – consider next steps to further your growth.
