Motivation for Finals!

Staying motivated during finals season can be challenging, but developing strong study habits can make all the difference.

Make Studying Fun

One great approach is to make studying fun. Turning your study materials into games can keep you engaged and help the information stick. For example, you can create flashcards and challenge yourself or even turn them into interactive games. Some great free sites to try including Quizlet, Kahoot and StudyStack.

You can also switch things up with the Feynman Technique, which involves teaching the material to someone else (or even an imaginary audience). This strategy makes it easier to identify what you understand well and which topics you may need to spend more time reviewing.

Take Breaks

Don’t forget it’s totally okay to take breaks. A lot of students follow a routine of studying for 30 minutes followed by a 10-minute break. This simple rhythm can keep you focused and help you actually retain what you’re reviewing.

Take Care of Yourself First

Now that you have some study tips, it’s also important to remember to take care of yourself during this time. With the weather getting colder and sickness spreading more easily, taking a few precautions can help you stay happy and healthy. Make sure you’re listening to your body and getting the rest you need to stay motivated throughout your exams. Eating filling meals and drinking plenty of water will also help keep your energy levels high.

If you need a little extra help during exam season, reach out to the academic support services in the Leanring Center. They offer tutors for any subject you need right here on campus! The Mizzou Career Center is also available to support you during this stressful time and can assist with any career-related questions you might have.

Have a great exam season, Tigers!
