Career Fairs

Upcoming events

Mizzou hosts several career fairs each semester where students and recruiters can network and make connections. We encourage students to attend career fairs at any time – it’s never too early to start forming professional relationships!

Students

Career fairs are your gateway to success, so follow the steps below to help you maximize your chances for employment.

Act professionally

Dress for success! Wear business attire and consult our Pinterest boards for inspiration. On a budget? Borrow clothes from Truman’s Closet!

Bring a folder or padfolio with copies of your resume and keep company materials there.

Turn off your phone and focus on the employer, making sure to discard of any gum or lozenges.

Make a good first impression

Create a resume, have it reviewed, and print multiple copies.

Prepare an elevator pitch to introduce yourself and briefly state your skills and interests.

Show enthusiasm and confidence with a firm handshake, strong eye contact and a smile!

Do your homework

Review the list of attending employers on Handshake and note whom you want to speak with.

Research the companies on Glassdoor and note positions they have available on Handshake.

Develop questions to ask employers and consider talking to companies that you may not yet be familiar with.

Seal the deal

Collect business cards and connect with recruiters on LinkedIn. Personalize your messages when reaching out.

Send “thank yous” within 24 hours of your conversation or interview.

Follow directions. Send materials, upload resumes, and complete follow-up instructions.

What comes next?

Many employers will offer in-person or virtual interviews soon after the career fair for candidates of interest. The Career Center staff and resources can help you reflect on your abilities, communicate your skills and talents, and prepare to answer responses.
