Career Scoop

Welcome New Students!

The 2026-2027 school year is upon us! With a successful Welcome Week completed, we’re on to syllabus week and planning the rest of the semester. By now you’ve probably met a handful of new people, joined a couple of GroupMes and already know what club meetings you’ll be attending this semester. It’s exciting, it’s exhausting and it can feel like a whirlwind. But, just like that, Welcome Week is over and the first day of class is around the corner. Welcome Week was only the beginning of what will turn out to be an amazing semester!

Welcome to the Career Center

That’s where the Career Center comes in! We hope that you got a chance to visit us during Welcome Week, but if not that’s okay! Our doors are always open, and we’ll have many events and workshops throughout the semester. Between making time for chapter meetings, club socials and org fairs, consider making a quick stop by the Career Center to learn more about how we may be of assistance to you this year!

Set the tone for a fruitful semester ahead. Start by booking an introduction appointment before your availability dwindles with the semester. Getting your resume looked at now will put you in a comfortable position when internship season rolls around. And if you haven’t even given thought to writing a resume, we can help with that too! We’re here to meet you where you are and equip you with the necessary tools and skills you’ll need to succeed at Mizzou and beyond the columns.

What can the Career Center offer you?

So, what does the Career Center actually do, you might ask. First and foremost, we want your experience with us to be individually tailored to your career goals and your immediate needs. So, the first thing you should ask yourself is: where do I need assistance? Where is my Achilles heel and what will help me close that gap? Doing your own initial assessment will help guide Career Center staff when you come in for an appointment.

Here are a few of our services you should get acquainted with:

  • One-on-One Appointments: Whether you know the career path you’d like to pursue or if you have not the slightest idea, career specialists are here to help! There’s absolutely no pressure to have it all figured out when you come in.
  • Resume Reviews: Whether you just need your resume scanned or if you need help constructing a resume from scratch, we got you! We’ll also give you plenty of additional resources to help guide you during this process.
  • Big Resume: If you are looking for additional personalized feedback, consider using this tool to help you create the best resume possible. Big Resume also allows you to compare your resume with any job description, allowing you to tailor your resume even further.
  • Big Interview: Use this tool for all things interview prep related! From AI mock interviews to answer construction tools to learning modules, Big Interview really does have it all! You’ll be able to walk into any interview with confidence!
  • Career Fairs and Employer Events: The Career Center in collaboration with individual colleges hosts career fairs throughout the semester to give students a chance to interact with real employers and potentially land entry-level roles or internships! Stay tapped in with the Career Center to learn when and where these events are and how you can come prepared.
  • Major and Industry-Specific Guidance: We understand students have different interests and areas of study, so we want to make sure we are tailoring our guidance to your individual needs.

We hope that you all walk away from Welcome Week feeling invigorated and ready to tackle the semester ahead! And remember if you didn’t get a chance to visit the Career Center this week, make that your next stop on campus!
