Career Development Network

About the network

The MU Career Development Network (CDN) is a group of faculty and staff committed to preparing MU students for lifelong career development. You can join the network by attending our trainings.

Attend our introductory sessions on career exploration and career readiness to become a Career Champion. At the conclusion of training, you will earn your Career Champion sticker and gain access to CDN resources.

Career Champions trainings  

Session 1: Career Exploration: This session will focus on how faculty, staff, and student employee supervisors can assist students with career and major exploration. Learning outcomes include: 

  • Identify next steps students can use in their career exploration after engaging in activities such as self-reflection and assessment  
  • Understand how to support students as they make career-related decisions  
  • Develop knowledge of career exploration resources as well as confidence in recommending them to students  
  • Ability to provide appropriate referrals on campus for career-related needs 

Session 2: Career Readiness: This session will help faculty, staff, and student employee supervisors learn more about how career services define “career readiness” and how to help students become career ready. Learning outcomes include: 

  • Ability to define career readiness for graduates  
  • Understanding the NACE career competencies and what employers value 
  • Ability to help students reflect on their own competency development 
  • Develop knowledge of resources to help students become career ready 

Upcoming trainings

Career Champions are encouraged to attend new sessions and topics to sharpen their skills and learn about the latest in career development. Here are the February 2025 sessions (more will be added for the spring semester).

Session 1: Career Exploration:
Tuesday, February 11th @ 8:30 – 10 am

Session 2: Career Readiness:
Wednesday, February 12th @ 10:30 am – 12 pm

Job & Internship Search Support for Student
Tuesday, February 25th @ 1 – 2:30  
Location: MU Career Center, Room 12  
Help students reflect on their career goals as they prepare and apply for jobs and internships.   

Employer Panel
Thursday, March 13th @ 12 – 1 pm (lunch provided!) 
Location: MU Career Center, Room 12 
Your questions about the job search process for students, career readiness, and more answered by employers.

Work-Study info Session: Recruitment
Tuesday April 15th @ 2 – 3 pm  
Location: Zoom (link will be sent after registration) 
This session will provide an opportunity for employers on campus to gain an understanding of the Work-Study Program for those interested in hiring students who qualify for the program.  

Shake Hands with Handshake: Session for Campus Employers
Tuesday, April 22nd @ 4-5 pm 
Location: MU Career Center, Main Floor  
Join us for an opportunity to learn the tips and tricks using Handshake for promoting your job opportunities.  

Career Development Network benefits

Members of the MU Career Development Network are visibly identified on campus as Career Champions, demonstrating their willingness and ability to help students with career decision-making and preparation. A multitude of benefits comes with joining the network, including:

  • Monthly updates, information, and resources from the MU Career Center
