Put Your Best Foot Forward

If you are walking on Lowry Mall, you’ll see some black and gold posters outside of the Student Success Center promoting career services. One message says “Put Your Best Foot Forward” and we sincerely want every Mizzou student to be aware of their strengths and become career ready!

Whether you are a sophomore looking for a summer job or internship, or a senior making post-grad plans, our staff and resources can help you find meaningful work experiences and opportunities to build skills so you can grow personally and professionally. Let me highlight a few of our favorites:

Career Specialists are trained peer advisors who are eager to help you in your career journey. They can discuss career options, resumes, interviews, job searching, LinkedIn profiles, networking, and much more! We encourage students to talk with someone about their career plans and our staff can help you identify resources and strategies to help you develop and pursue those goals.

Big Interview is a web-based program that combines training and practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence. You can watch video tutorials, read advice articles, and record your interviews to share with others for feedback. The site has thousands of questions for graduate school and a wide variety of occupations. Take advantage of this resource to build your confidence and sharpen your interview skills.

Handshake is the employment site for all Mizzou student and alumni job seekers. You can find campus jobs, part-time positions, internships and full-time career opportunities. There are thousands of job vacancies located in Columbia, the state of Missouri, the Midwest and across the U.S. In addition to job postings, you can message recruiters, network with alumni and RSVP for events and career fairs.

LinkedIn is a global networking tool with endless possibilities for students. As well as the robust job board, the site features groups, hashtags to follow, and a feed that allows you to stay updated with connections and trends in your field. Check out our Guide to LinkedIn to create an account or update your profile!
