It is Show Me Research Week! It is a jam-packed week full of research including work displays, poster presentations, keynote speakers, professional development sessions and award ceremonies. The events are open for all Mizzou majors and can easily connect you to specialists in the field, inspire your own research, or provide new insight!
It might feel overwhelming looking at all of the amazing presenters and exhibits, but here are the highlights of what you might be interested in based on your major.
Arts and Humanities
Material Study: School of Visual Studies Exhibition Room
Where: 214B, Memorial Union North
When: Wednesday 9:00 am –3:30 p.m.
Feast your eyes on an array of media and artforms, from fiber art to paintings to drawings. Explores the relationship between artists and the process of art making through materiality, the physical substances that artists use to bring their visions to life.
ASH Scholars Program: Art of Death Exhibition
Where: Room 40, Arts and Science Building
When: Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 am-5:00 pm
Ever feel like experiencing an immersive art exhibit that uses video projection, fiber arts, painting, collage, ink, sculpture, stop-motion animation and photography to express concepts of death. The “Traces” art exhibition invites you to think about the concepts in a thought provoking and new way.
Runway of Dreams Fashion Exhibit
Where: 214DE, Memorial Union North
When: Wednesday 9:00 am-3:30 pm
Lights, Camera, Runway! Runway of Dreams is a foundation that empowers people with disabilities to have confidence and self-expression through fashion and beauty inclusion. Inclusivity is for all and this shows it in a daring and exciting way!
Business
Vendor Resource Fair
Where: McQuinn Atrium and 2nd floor, Bond Life Sciences Center
When: Thursday 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Wanting to make connections to local businesses in the Columbia area? Vendors with University of Missouri contracts will be on hand during Show Me Research Week to answer questions about their products and services, including Azure Biosystems, FedEx Office and Thermo Fisher Scientific. Representatives from UM Procurement Services also will be available to answer questions about the university’s Show Me Shop and purchasing process.

Storytelling and the Value Proposition of Science Communication
Where: S203, Memorial Union South
When: Thursday 4:00 pm-5:00 pm
Rishi Masalia, current founder of Sage Advice Science Consulting, will teach academics some tricks and tips for communicating their research. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of the importance of communicating their research well, techniques for weaving powerful narratives into scientific presentations and increased confidence in engaging audiences of all backgrounds.

Data Science and AI Training Opportunities at MU
Where: N204, Memorial Union North
When: Thursday 10:30 am-12:30 pm
Become part of Mizzou’s legacy as an early adopter in training the next generation of data scientists! This session — which includes a free lunch — will show you how artificial intelligence and working with large datasets can be used in almost every discipline. We’ll also cover Mizzou’s programs and courses for undergraduates and graduate students in data science and AI for those interested in taking their knowledge to the next level.
History and Humanities
Elliott West Lecture on the Santa Fe Trail
Where: Monsanto Auditorium, Bond Life Sciences Center
When: Thursday 5:00 pm (reception), 5:30 pm (lecture)
Historian and author Elliott West, prolific scholar and one of the stars of Ken Burns’ docuseries “The American Buffalo,” will deliver a keynote speech titled “The Santa Fe Trail: Three Centuries of Western History.”
Santa Fe Trail Living History Exhibit
Where: Francis Quadrangle
When: Thursday 1:00pm-3:00pm
This Show Me Research Week living history exhibit highlights Missouri’s central role in the Santa Fe Trail, a vital overland trade route to New Mexico beginning in 1821. It will feature one of the most important products of the trail’s commercial corridor – the Missouri mule. Visitors can take pictures with the mule and learn about the history of overland trails and the team’s podcast.
Humanities Symposium: Student Presentations
When: Thursday 1:00 pm-2:30 pm
Where: S203, Memorial Union South
Symposium contributors will share research and creative projects connected to this year’s theme – Artificial Intelligence: Digital Literacy and Making the Future Accessible for All.
General Presentations. The Humanities Symposium will spotlight the scholarship of undergraduate students working in academic disciplines that study human culture, such as languages, literature, history, linguistics, jurisprudence, philosophy, archaeology, comparative religion, ethics and the arts.

Leadership in Academia: Activate Your Career Potential

Do you enjoy academic life but want to focus on communication and leadership? Join us as MU’s Director of Postdoctoral Education, Valli Sarveswaran, shares how to leverage your graduate school education into an administrative career in academia. All who are interested may attend.
