Unsure about where to go on your career journey? The Focus 2 assessments are here to help. By completing the Focus 2 assignments, you can leverage your strengths and interests to map out a career path that suits you. After taking all the Focus 2 assessments, I now have a clearer understanding of my interests across various aspects of my career.
Career Interests Game
In addition to the Focus 2 assignments I also took the quiz to find my Holland Code. John Holland’s theory suggests that individuals and work environments can be categorized into six broad groups. People’s personalities may align more closely with certain environments, making them more appealing. While you might identify with aspects of several groups, you are likely to feel a stronger attraction to two or three specific areas. These areas represent your Holland Code My Holland Code is AIC. The A in my Holland code is stands for artistic. Within the Holland code specifically this means I have an open and imaginative mind. The I in my Holland code stands for investigative. This represents my enjoyment of observing and analyzing data or information. The C in my code stands for conventional, this is representative of my enjoyment of structure and order.
Values
The first Focus 2 assessment centered on my values—what I want to gain from my career. I identified my key values as creativity, influence, and risk-taking. These values guide me in identifying the right opportunities when choosing a career. I know that a fulfilling career for me won’t involve sitting in an office all day; instead, I seek a role that allows me to explore, learn, and take initiative.
Personality
The second Focus 2 assessment assessed the types of careers that best match my personality. The results of this assessment showed me that I want a career that encourages the exploration of new ideas and allows me to collaborate with others. As I consider future career paths, I look for jobs that enable me to engage with people daily.
Skills
My third Focus 2 assessment highlighted my skills, such as persuasion and writing. I used this information to ensure that my major and career path align with my skill set.
Recommendations
Based on these results, the assessments recommended jobs like news reporter, which is perfect for me as a journalism major. This career allows me to work in creative roles and innovative/hands-on work environments, such as a bustling newsroom. It also provides opportunities to engage with my community and learn independently. Additionally, a career in journalism enables me to interact with others regularly, whether through interviews or meetings with editors while also utilizing my skills in persuasion and writing.
What should you do if the results don’t suggest any careers or jobs related to your major? It may be a good idea to make an appointment with a career counselor for further guidance. A career counselor will work with you through your Focus 2 assessment results to find a career path or major that best fits you. They may have more information about different career or major paths that you may have not heard of or considered yet.
