How to Manage Your Stress and Prioritize Wellbeing

Here at Mizzou, we want our students to feel supported. We know that life can get overwhelming, no matter where you are in your college career. Let’s go through a few options that we have on campus that can help you manage your stress.

Sleeping Sections on Campus

We all wish we had more hours in the day. Often times, we stay up late and skip out on sleep so that we can have more hours. In fact, researchers find that more than 70% of college students get less than eight hours of sleep a night, which has been proven to negatively impact academic success and overall stress levels. We know that as students, a nap can be a big help, so we’ve designated different spots on campus for you to catch some z’s in between classes. You can find a map of them here to plan your next post-class nap.

Attend Wellness Events

If you’re looking for something a little more involved, Mizzou offers a variety of wellness events. From Well-Being Wednesday’s to Noontime Meditation with Student Health and Well-Being, to craft nights with the Campus Activities Programming Board, you can find a variety of stress-relieving activities on MU Engage. The best part is, they’re all free! So, if you have time and are needing a self check-in session, follow the link to sign up today!

Try Out Some Movement

A great way to release stress and get your mind off of your to-do list is to try out a group fitness class. Made for all levels and types of exercise, MizzouRec offers a variety of group fitness classes for students at no extra charge! Reserve your spot (starting 24 hours in advance of a class) online at MizzouRec or via the MizzouRec app with your student email. Pick from fun classes like Zumba to sweaty sessions like cycling, or opt for the Stress Reduction Yoga class for a zen setting focused on releasing tension and winding down through gentle movement. Find the class that works best for you and get to relaxing.
